OLA Curriculum:
The curriculum of our facility affects all areas of a child’s
day. The curriculum approach is a holistic one, one in which our
teachers work with pre-school programs for the Board of Education and Head Start Program.
The teachers in the classroom are facilitators’ and nurturers,
providing children with age appropriate activities, encouragement, and
support. Teachers are always close at hand with guidance and
assistance. We also encourage children to help themselves and give
them a better awareness of their own independence, for example throwing
away their own garbage, putting toys away, zipping or buttoning their
own pants, or coping with a confrontation amongst peers.
2 YEAR OLD CLASSROOM:
It is extremely beneficial for toddlers to get the chance to interact with their peers. At this age your child is becoming more aware of their surroundings and environment. Beginning to understand words such as “sharing” and “thank you”, along with learning many other fundamental needs for appropriate socialization. At Our Little Angels we teach these needs to our two year olds with great care in a loving and nurturing mannerism. Showing our toddlers how to properly interact with their friends along with introducing them into a classroom environment.
3 YEAR OLD CLASSROOM:
At the age of 3 your child is beginning to develop a better sense of self-awareness and independence. In which our teachers encourage a more independent atmosphere for them. For example, putting on their own coat or throwing away their own garbage, etc. We instill these dependent attributes along with showing the same love and care as with our 2 year olds. Our 3 year olds will also be taught a better consciousness of classroom structure, preparing them for Pre-K and Kindergarten.
4 & 5 YEAR OLD PRE-K CLASSROOM
At Our Little Angels we offer our own Pre-K program. In correlation with the Common Core and Board of Education requirements, it is our duty to prep our Pre-K class the very best for Kindergarten. Educating them with fun activities, we aim to keep them on a structured schedule. They will also be given homework twice a week, in preparation for Kindergarten.
INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR & DISCIPLINE
It is essential that children between the ages of 2 to 5 are enlightened of appropriate and inappropriate behavior. At Our Little Angels we do not under any circumstances condone hitting, verbal scolding, or any inappropriate actions or manners from any Teacher/Staff member. However, we understand our students being at their tender ages will inevitably display behaviors such as hitting, throwing, using foul language, etc. It is only natural for them to pick up these actions if they are influenced by them. This is why it is our responsibility to express and implant a loving environment for our students. Should any of these actions be displayed by any student we use redirection. That student will be spoken to and explained why it is not nice to show such behavior towards their classmates and teachers, we then help them understand the importance of apologizing. After they are spoken to they are redirected back to classroom activity.
(Each class will also include a circle time twice a day. The head teacher of each class will conduct their circle time. During circle time the teachers will sing songs with them, read stories to them, go over their weekly curriculum of numbers, letters, holidays, the date, months of the year, describe what they will be learning throughout the day and explain their daily projects).
Throughout the year we bring in extra classes including music, soccer, yoga, etc.
(Schedule may vary depending on daily curriculums)
Activities vary for all ages. We conduct proper activities for their age group.
